Auditions will be cold readings from selected scenes with different groupings of the actors. Everyone is welcome and all roles are available. Then director would like actors to attempt to read/perform with a Brooklyn-Jewish accent for authenticity.
Performance dates will be Friday-Sunday, May 8 through May 31. Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30 PM except than the Saturday May 16 performance is at 3:00 PM. All Sunday performances are at 3:00 PM. There will be no performances on May 22-24 (Memorial Day Weekend).
We will rehearse Monday - Thursday from 6:30pm till 9pm. As we get closer to tech week, we will be having full run-through’s, so we may have one week of Monday - Friday rehearsals with a possible Saturday morning or afternoon.
About the roles
Eugene Morris Jerome - 14/15 years old. He is the play’s narrator and protagonist. Eugene is obsessed with baseball, writing and his beautiful cousin Nora.
Stanley Jerome - Eugene’s 18 year old brother and confidante. He works and helps to support his struggling family. He is sincere, serious and principled. He has a strong sense of morality and integrity.
Kate Jerome - 40 years old. She is Eugene’s mother and caretaker of the Jerome family. Kate is a strong, caring Jewish mother.
Jacob ‘Jack’ Jerome - also 40’s. Eugene’s father and patriarch of the Jerome/Morton family clan. He is responsible, thoughtful and persuasive. He is a resolute family man.
Blanche Morton - Kate’s slightly younger sister, perhaps 38 years old. She is a widow and lives with her 2 daughters with the Jerome family. Blanche does not have a viable means of support due to her ailments and is financially dependent on her sister and her family.
Nora Morton - is a pretty 16 year old high school student. She loves to dance and aspires to become a Broadway performer.
Laurie Morton - Eugene’s 13 year old cousin and Nora’s younger sister. She is spoilt by her mother and aunt because of her ‘heart flutter’ and is treated as being fragile. Laurie is studious and spends her time reading.
